Terminal Disease

Terminal diseases are the most common in the world. It is difficult to say why people are suffering from such a terrible illnesses. What is the most painful that children are suffering from such illnesses too.
The reasons of terminal disease may be these one:
  • genetic
  • explosion in Chernobyl
  • eating habits
  • pollution
All these facts are well known for us, but we steel do not know how to fight with terminal diseases. We only can help sick persons. Here are some propositions how to help:
  • communication with people who have the same problems
  • traveling
  • day centres
  • medical treatment
The most important help is family support. It is difficult to know that your family member is sick, but you must be strong and help as you can. Sometime terminal ill people live a long and beautiful life, but not often. They must live in good conditions and have a lot of money. We as a social worker should help as a professional, show the good side even there is no hope...
In conclusion, I would like to say ' If God closes a door, he always open a window '...

Online Listening

I have listen http://www.breakingnewsenglish.com/0710/071030-sweatshop.mp3 and http://www.voanews.com/specialenglis/2007-11-06-voa1.cfm and more five podcasts.
Listening was not difficult but I can not say that it was easy. In all I understood what was speaking about, but I am not sure that I will answer to the questions about details. I have listen seven podcasts and they were really different. Speakers were fast in some of them and native English is different from our English. The accent was strange, but after few minutes it became normal. It was good lesson. I try to listen BBC news in compare and I must say that BBC news was more difficult than podcasts. For another hand, when you see who is speaking it is easier to listen. Listening podcast was little bit boring, because there was no questions and in some moment I start thinking about something else. In my opinion more useful was BBC news listening, but podcast were good practise. I do not know am I ready to exam listening, because it depends on questions and speaker. Between native English and American English is big difference. American speakers are speaking very fast, but English one has very interesting accent. I do not know what is better.
In conclusion, I would like to say that class listening is the most useful , because you hear the questions and that you are looking answers in a speech. But this activity was useful, because you choose what to listen and how many times, and you know were are your problem.

Social Policy. Welfare

One of the most important part of social policy is welfare. Welfare refers to 'well-being' and to the range of services which are provided to protect people. This part of the social policy is different in each country. Welfare is better developed in reach and democratic countries.
I would like to compare this policy in two countries: Lithuania and the United Kingdom.
Firstly, I would like to write about the United Kingdom. In this country, welfare is in a high level. There are some arguments for welfare. It is: humanitarian, religious, practical. These arguments say that welfare is a very good politic, help people, teach people to be merciful and solidarity.
Of course, there are arguments against welfare. Firstly, people have absolute right to use property as they wish. Everybody does with his money what he wants and often people do not want give money for poor people. Secondly, the rights of the individual paramount. That means property rights are more important than moral value. Of course, it depends on human. Welfare is often associated with need, but in reality that means well-being and choice how to live. People choose what they want to do in theirs lifes. The United Kingdom is a good example of well developed social policy as well as welfare.
Lithuania is new, young country and is only creating his policy. I try to find information about welfare in Lithuania, but welfare is connected with housing policy and I think that Lithuania do not have such kind of policy. Welfare's duties are in personal social services. This service include childhood, sickness and old age. There is not enough institutions, which can help such a people, but I believe that in future the situation will be like in the United Kingdom.
Welfare is created for people well-being, so we should use it for our needs. It does not mater in whit country you live, social policy should be well developed.
